We'll explore the deepest levels of your core musculature with pilates all the while having complete awareness of your skeletal alignment through my study of yoga. You'll be amazed with where your mind and body can take you and just how good life can be!
Joseph Pilates (1880-1967) grew up in a German village and was plagued by asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. Determined to overcome his ailments and being exposed to different exercise techniques by his father who was a gymnast and naturopath–he studied Eastern and Western forms of medicine before exercising his way to better health. Pilates strongly believed that his over 500 exercises should be done with the body, mind and spirit functioning perfectly as a coordinated whole.
Anusara (flowing with grace) yoga was founded by John Friend in 1997 after he studied with B.K.S. Iyengar in India. While the practice of yoga has been around for thousands of years with its benefits being unsurpassed, Friend’s style of yoga emphasizes openheartedness and loving kindness and looks for the good in all people and all things. Anusara yoga aims to free up your emotions by aligning your body in various poses through its Universal Principles of Alignment.
